Educational Attainment and Need

 

·       177 Youth without diplomas and NOT IN SCHOOL in 2001 are in our service area.

·       15,773 Adults in Franklin/Hampshire Counties are without High School diplomas

·       In Amherst, 4.8% of adults over 25 are without High School Diplomas

·       In Greenfield, 13.9% of adults over 25 are without High School Diplomas

 

 

ESOL

· 93.7% of Franklin County residents know only English, 88.2% of Hampshire county residents know only English.

· 1,364 residents of Franklin County, 4379 residents of Hampshire county and 447,095 residents of Massachusetts speak English less than very well.

· 4,023 is how many who need ESOL Need adults in Franklin and Hampshire Counties.

 

 

Populations Underrepresented or Neglected

·Although Massachusetts’s population has grown by 5.53%, Greenfield’s population has decreased 2.67%.

· 2% of the population in Greenfield live in group quarters.

· 12 % of the population in Hampshire counties live in group quarters.

· 11% of the population in Hampshire County lives in college dormitories.

 

Youth

· 11% of all births in Franklin County were to mothers under 20 years old.

· 5.8% of all births in Hampshire County are to mothers under 20 years old, and an 8.8% of all births in Massachusetts were to others under 20 years old.

· 177 Youth without diplomas and NOT IN SCHOOL in 2001 in our service area.

 

Poverty

· Franklin County holds 8 of the 50 poorest towns in the commonwealth.

· There are 351 towns and 14 counties in Massachusetts.

· Franklin County’s families with female heads of household with children are higher than the state average.

· In ten years, the median household income has increased by about $10, 000 dollars.

 

People Transitioning off Welfare

· The fastest growing job category in Franklin County from 1998-2000 is professional health care careers

 

Corrections

· 66% of the Greenfield ABE enrollment are on probation, parole or are ex offenders, 20% of them are youth

· 88% of the Orange ABE enrollment are on probation parole or are ex offenders are youth.

· 70.5% of the Montague ABE enrollment are on probation, parole, or are ex offenders, 50.9% of them are youth.

· 16.6% of the ABE Northampton enrollment are on probation, parole, or are ex offenders, 70% of them are youth.

· 49.5of the ABE Ware enrollment are on probation, parole, or are ex offenders, 80 % of them are youth.

· 17.5% of the ABE Amherst enrollment are on probation, parole, or are ex offenders, 92% of them are youth.
