What does High School Equivalency Mean?

Working towards High School Equivalency

At the Literacy Project, we have classes at different levels, and we spend time talking to you to place you in the right level class for your needs.

Along with GED preparation and HiSET preparation classes, we also have Pre‑High School Equivalency classes to help strengthen reading, writing, and math skills before moving on to high school equivalency preparation.

Graduating from The Literacy Project

was a dream come true.

Behind the scenes:

Every Journey Starts Somewhere

Your support helps adults take the first step.

At The Literacy Project, we believe that early learning in reading, writing, and math leads to powerful changes. Pre-HSE students begin with basic skills – gaining the confidence to manage daily life, support their families, and take steps towards a diploma.

You can help create a second-chance classroom.

These classes are about more than academics. They build confidence, create routine, and offer a safe space to try again after past struggles in school.

Your organization can help open the door to learning.

We offer classes in trusted, local spaces—libraries, learning centers, and online. This flexibility helps meet the needs of adults balancing jobs, caregiving, or transportation challenges.

Help us share the message.

When adults build foundational skills, everything changes—from job prospects to family life. With your help, we can keep showing learners that it’s never too late to start.
