Our Pre-High School Equivalency in Massachusetts

What These Classes Can Help With

If you’re thinking about getting your high school diploma in the future but you’re not quite ready for HiSET or GED prep, you’re in the right place.

Our Pre-High School Equivalency classes help adult learners build the skills and confidence they need to get ready for high school-level study. These classes are a step up from basic skills — focused, supportive, and designed to help you move forward.

In Pre-High School Equivalency classes, you’ll build stronger academic skills and get more comfortable with classroom learning. You might work on:

  • Reading – like understanding longer texts, finding the main idea, and building vocabulary
  • Writing – like writing organized paragraphs, using punctuation, and editing your work
  • Math – like working with fractions, percentages, charts, and word problems
  • Study skills – like understanding instructions, managing your time, and asking for help
  • Basic science and social studies – like reading short articles and discussing new topics
  • Digital skills – like using Google Docs, email, and Zoom for learning

You don’t need to be ready for the HiSET or GED yet. These classes help you get ready for that step.

Behind the scenes:

Starting Strong with Pre-HSE Skills

Together, we can make sure every adult has a chance to build the foundation for a high school equivalency – and a brighter future.

Your support helps adults take the first step.

At The Literacy Project, we believe that early learning in reading, writing, and math leads to powerful changes. Pre-HSE students begin with basic skills – gaining the confidence to manage daily life, support their families, and take steps toward a diploma.

You can help someone begin their Pre-HSE journey.

Our classes are welcoming, supportive, and built around everyday needs. Learners might be reading signs, filling out forms, writing short messages, or working with numbers. We focus on practical skills that lead to long-term success.

You can help open the door to learning.

Volunteer tutors play a key role in helping adults build confidence and trust. With patience and guidance, you can help learners make steady progress toward high school equivalency.

Support real-life learning that changes lives.

Basic skills unlock access to work, health care, transportation, and education. Each milestone brings more independence – and a clearer path toward earning a diploma.
