We truly could not do it without you!
Each year, The Literacy Project relies on roughly 50 dedicated community volunteers who support our classroom instruction and make a lasting impact in the lives of adult learners.
Your time and presence matter. Volunteering in our classrooms is a powerful way to get to know your neighbors, build teaching skills, and help someone reach their goals.

“Volunteering for The Literacy Project was one of the most

worthwhile things I have done in my life.”

What volunteers do:
Most volunteers assist in our classrooms under the guidance of a staff instructor. You don’t need teaching experience, just a willingness to learn and show up consistently.
We welcome volunteers who:
- Are at least 18 years old
- Are fluent in written and spoken English
- Have a high school diploma or the equivalent
Volunteer tutors follow a regular weekly schedule, typically 1 to 3 hours per week. We ask volunteers to commit to the full school year or the remainder of the year if you’re joining mid-year.
After you fill out an inquiry form, we’ll look for a good match based on your interests, availability, and our current openings—either in-person at one of our sites or online. If it’s a fit, we’ll invite you to a short orientation to help you get started. If we don’t have an opening right away, we’ll keep your information on file as opportunities may open up throughout the year.
If you’re ready to make a meaningful difference, we’d love to hear from you!
