Apply to Volunteer at The Literacy Project

If you are excited about our mission of providing access to education to all adults in the Pioneer Valley, join us as a volunteer.

What volunteers do:

Most volunteers assist in our classes, working under the direction of the staff instructor, and come in once a week for a few hours.  Since you'll be working alongside our teachers, you don't need to have prior teaching experience - just a willingness to learn!

Some volunteers help in the office, maintain our classrooms, or assist with fundraising and outreach events.

Others bring their professional skills and expertise - computer networking, graphic design, photography, legal issues, curriculum development, executive coaching, etc. - to their volunteer position, making a unique contribution to the work of The Literacy Project.

We are looking for volunteer tutors who:

  • support our mission

  • are 18 or older

  • have a high school diploma or the equivalent

  • are conversationally fluent in English

  • can commit to 6 months or 2 school semesters

  • are willing to learn alongside the teacher and students
