Education and Career Advisor

The Literacy Project is seeking an Education and Career Advisor for our North Quabbin site located in Orange, MA. This position is funded for 20 hours per week through for the 2023-2024 school year; this position may continue after May 2024, pending sufficient grant funding. $28/hour, plus prorated benefits.

The Advisor conducts community outreach in the North Quabbin region to promote the site and recruit students and volunteers. They work collaboratively with site staff to: conduct student intakes; help students set and meet goals; locate and access social services; explore career options; enroll in post-secondary education and training; and follow up with past students. The Advisor works both individually and in small groups with students to support their participation in The Literacy Project’s programs, in individual advising sessions and in classroom-based presentations.

Additional responsibilities include: recordkeeping and data entry; contributing to site maintenance and planning; attendance at staff meetings; participation in on-going professional development.

A minimum of a high school diploma, or the equivalent, is required. Applicants should have exceptional interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills as well as an ability to build community connections and partnerships. The position also requires a candidate who has a strong commitment to the agency’s mission and ADEI, and who demonstrates a love of learning, and enthusiasm for working in a collaborative team environment. A successful background screening/CORI is required for this position. Familiarity with the North Quabbin region is desired.
